As you work with the tools provided by the AECT Project, data about your teaching role, your teaching experience, how you currently use technologies, and your priorities will be recorded on a computer at Penn State University. The primary reason we collect this data is to reflect it back to you, to help you think about your own use of technology and to help you learn to use technology well. Because there is also value in looking at what groups of teachers think, for example to understand how teachers of different subjects and with different amounts of experience use and/or view technology, we ask for your permission to combine the data you provide with the data provided by other teachers. The understandings we gain from this activity will guide the development of our project and may also offer important information to assist teacher educators and professional development specialists. Because Penn State University views any data gathering activity as research, the next page will display a rather formal "Informed Consent Form" asking for your permission to gather the data required by the tools our project offers. If you agree you will be able to register with the project and use the tools that result in data collection. If you decline, you will be returned to our home page, where you will only have access to sites open to visitors. Even if you came to this site as part of an authorized district-wide inservice program, your decision not to participate in th study will not effect your employment. We hope that you will choose to participate, and we promise not to misuse the data you provide. Sincerely,
