The
Role of "Expert Panels"
The underlying premise of
this project is that teachers of different subjects and
levels have different needs, and that "experts" on these
roles should think together to define proficiency with
technologies for specific roles. For this reason, this
project relies on 46 different teams composed of teachers
and leaders from higher education institutions that prepare
teachers. These "Expert Panels" will:
- Get
acquainted
- Rate and propose
"Technology Strategies" (ways teachers can use technology
to enhance student learning) based on their importance
for that teaching role
- Rate a set of
technology "prerequisites" (basic competencies and
knowledge) according to their importance in that teaching
role
- Collaborate with
other expert panel members to decide which technology
strategies and prerequisites should be required to define
technological readiness for that teaching role, based on
the ratings from expert panel members and
others
- Publish the
recommended set of role-specific technology strategies
and prerequisites on the AECT Project website for review
by other teachers and higher education faculty
members
- Moderate an online
conversation on the strategies and prerequisites, and
make decisions on changes to the list
- Help recruit
participants in the review process, through their school
districts, professional associations, and
subject-oriented listservs
- Help AECT Project
Staff define the recommended prerequisite knowledge and
skills needed for certain technology
strategies
- Review the assessment
tools developed by the AECT Project Staff and provide
feedback
- Update the
recommended technology strategies and prerequisites for
the role each year.
How Much Time Will It
Require?
We estimate that
participation on an expert panel will require approximately
two-hours per week, with a few bursts of activity during the
summer that might require four hours per week.

Become A Member of an Expert
Panel?
To indicate your
interest in becoming a member of an expert panel, use the
link at the bottom of this screen to give us a little
information about your background and current teaching
assignment. We'll review that, and will get back to you
quickly. If you are a teacher in one of the roles or a
higher education faculty member who prepares teachers for
these roles, and you've been using technologies effectively
in the classroom, we'd love to have you join!
