How to Rate Technology
Strategies & Prerequisites

Begin Rating Now

One of project's most important contributions is hosting a website through which people rate the importance of technology stratgeies and technology-related knowledge and skills, for teachers in diffierent teaching roles. Once we understand how important the different strategies and prerequisites are for teachers in different roles, we can design teacher education programs to ensure that teachers graduate with the specific competencies they need to use technologies well in their disciplines.

This page will teach you how to use our rating system, so that your voice can be considered during decision making. The AECT Project's surveys of the importance of different technology strategies and prerequisite skills are open for viewing not only by the expert panels, but by others as well. We know that teacher educators will want to see the results, as will teachers and others, too.

Because we need to make sure that everyone has only one voice in the rating process, only registered users of our website are allowed to submit ratings. For this reason, when you click the "Begin Rating Now" link at the bottom of this page, you'll see our login screen that looks like the image below. If you have already registered, enter your login and password then click the "Login" button. If you have not yet registered with the AECT Project, click the "Click HERE to Register" link.

Once you have logged in, you'll see a menu of options. Select the "Rate Technology Strategies and Prerequisites" option. You will see a screen like the one illustrated below, containing a pull-down menu of teaching roles.

Use the pull-down menu to select a teaching role, as shown in the illustration below. (Only the first few of the 46 different teaching roles are shown in the illustration.)

After you select a role, you will be shown a list of strategies to rate (for the first educational goal, "Build Strong Personal Relationships with Students"), with a blank rating scale for each strategy.

Indicate how important you think each strategy is for the teaching role you selected by clicking a number from one to nine. Use ratings one through three to represent a strategy you think is not important, four through six for strategies you believe are important, and seven through nine for strategies you think are very important. Notice that you can also leave a brief comment in the comments field. The expert panels will review the comments as they make decisions about which strategies and prerequisites should be required for competence in that teaching role. When you have rated a set of strategies and made any comments you want to make, click the "Submit this Rating" button, and you will see the set of strategies for the next educational goal. You can click the "Finish This Rating Later" link at the top left of the rating scrceen, if you want stop the rating process. Your data will be saved, and you will be able to resume the rating process where you left off.

Notice the link at the bottom of each rating screen that says, "Suggest a new Technology Strategy for this Technology Goal." If you think of an important way that teachers in your teaching role can use technology to help students, you can use this link to suggest it for addition. When you click this link a form like the one shown below will come up, and you can share your idea. The suggested strategies will be reviewed by the expert panels for the teaching roles you suggest, and the panel membes will determine whether to add it to the database of strategies.
